Fellow Scouters,
I hope this finds you in good spirits.

I have recently been introduced to the joys of attempting to balance working in the office, working from home and home schooling for two children. I have to say it is not an easy balancing act.

My son, a year 8 (first year in old money), has just finished a project for home economics titled ‘Family life’ set through the dreaded Google Classrooms. He had to research the different types of families and how conflict can arise. He then needed to identify how we can all work to reduce conflict. I thought this was a very apt project now that we all have found ourselves living very different lives at the minute. One of the things he discovered was that setting and sticking to a routine helps structure our day and lets us know what is coming next.

With the idea of structure in mind, have you managed to stay in contact with your fellow leaders and helpers? Why not try and stay in contact at your normal meeting time and just have a chat or perhaps think what new programme ideas could be tried when we do start up again. It is also an opportunity to look at the online adult training resources. If you haven’t completed your Woodbadge yet or fancy renewing it as a group of leaders, there are plenty of resources available at https://www.scouts.org.uk. Your group or district training manager will be able to point you to the relevant modules. If you are really stuck, you can drop me an email to adultsupport@scoutsni.org. I will try and answer your queries however please have a good look on the website https://members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources//search?cat=23 for training support as this is where I look for advice.

The Scouting family is huge and families support each other. Make sure you stay in contact with each other and keep our young members up to date with great activities at https://www.scouts.org.uk/the-great-indoors/ or support the NI Development team with their daily challenges at https://www.facebook.com/scoutsni/. The activities aren’t just for young people. Have a go yourself!

This hiatus in our outdoor activities will pass. Lets spend a little time each week preparing to restart with a fantastic outdoor based programme. We will have been stuck inside too long.

Regards
Ciaran
