County Down Cubs celebrate 100th birthday by helping others!
Last weekend saw 500 Cub Scouts and leaders from across County Down gather in the beautiful surroundings of Lorne Estate for a fun filled, action packed camping extravaganza to celebrate their centenary year. In true Scouting fashion, Cubs took part in a huge variety of challenging and engaging activities including High Ropes, Archery, Grass Sledging, a visit from ‘World of Owls,’ a trip to the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum, a fundraising funfair and much more!
Scouts across the UK make a pledge to ‘help other people’ as part of their Scout Promise and not only did Cubs take part in a weekend of fun and celebration, but they stayed true to this promise and raised an impressive £1000 over the course of the weekend for their charity partners, Cool Fm’s Cash for Kids. This will allow children less fortunate than themselves to have a Christmas present to open on Christmas Day. Courage the Cash for Kids mascot also came along to help us hit our target.
Event organiser Chris Lammey told us, “We believe Scouting really does change lives and we encourage more young people aged 4-25 to come and join the fun. Our numbers in County Down have risen 6% in the last year alone and we’d hate for your son or daughter to miss out on our adventure! We also desperately need more adults to help deliver these fantastic opportunities.”
